| Description | The BHI160B is an ultra-low-power 6-axis intelligent motion sensor hub developed by Bosch Sensortec. It combines a three-axis MEMS accelerometer, three-axis MEMS gyroscope, and a dedicated 32-bit microcontroller with integrated sensor fusion algorithms, providing a compact solution for always-on motion sensing and activity recognition applications. The device incorporates a 32-bit floating-point ARC EM4 Fuser Core operating at 10MHz, together with 96KB ROM and 48KB shared RAM. Its integrated Bosch sensor fusion software enables advanced motion processing while reducing the computational workload of the host processor. The BHI160B supports 16-bit acceleration and angular rate measurements, with selectable accelerometer ranges up to ±16g and gyroscope ranges up to ±2000°/s. Integrated motion algorithms support step counting, activity recognition, significant motion detection, tilt detection, gesture recognition, and pedestrian dead reckoning. For communication, the sensor provides a high-speed I2C host interface supporting up to 3.4Mbps and an auxiliary I2C sensor interface supporting up to 1Mbps. External sensors, including magnetometers, can be connected to enable additional sensing functions and 9-axis sensor fusion. The device operates from a 1.71V to 3.6V main supply and a separate 1.6V to 3.3V I/O supply. Its ultra-low-power architecture makes it suitable for continuous motion monitoring in battery-powered electronic systems. The BHI160B is supplied in a miniature 24-pin LGA surface-mount package measuring 3.0 × 3.0 × 0.95mm and supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Typical applications include smartwatches, fitness trackers, wearable electronics, activity monitoring systems, indoor navigation devices, augmented reality equipment, virtual reality controllers, gaming accessories, gesture-controlled interfaces, and portable motion tracking devices.
