| Description | The BMA223 is a compact, low-power 3-axis digital MEMS accelerometer developed by Bosch Sensortec. Designed for measuring linear acceleration along the X, Y, and Z axes, this sensor provides digital motion data for embedded electronics, portable devices, and motion-sensitive applications. The device supports 8-bit acceleration measurements with four selectable full-scale ranges: ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g. Its programmable measurement range allows designers to optimize sensitivity for different applications, from gentle movement and orientation changes to higher acceleration events. The BMA223 offers a configurable measurement bandwidth from 8Hz to 1kHz and provides acceleration sensitivity ranging from 64 LSB/g at ±2g to 8 LSB/g at ±16g. These capabilities make it suitable for motion monitoring, orientation sensing, tilt measurement, and vibration-related applications. For communication with external microcontrollers and processors, the sensor supports I2C and SPI digital interfaces. This enables integration into embedded systems without requiring an external analog-to-digital converter for acceleration measurements. The BMA223 operates from a 1.2V to 3.6V supply voltage, making it suitable for low-voltage electronic designs. Its compact construction and low-power sensing architecture are advantageous for portable and space-constrained applications. The device is supplied in a miniature 12-pin LGA surface-mount package measuring 2 × 2mm and supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Its small footprint makes it suitable for densely populated printed circuit boards. Typical applications include wearable electronics, portable devices, motion detection systems, orientation sensing, tilt monitoring, consumer electronics, embedded controllers, and compact sensor modules.
