| Description | The DS1302Z+ is a highly integrated real-time clock (RTC) and calendar IC developed by Analog Devices (Maxim Integrated), designed for accurate timekeeping in embedded systems and battery-backed applications. It maintains time and date information including seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year with leap-year compensation. The device includes 31 bytes of battery-backed static RAM, allowing storage of user data even when the main power supply is removed, making it ideal for low-power and backup applications. The DS1302Z+ communicates via a simple 3-wire serial interface (CE, I/O, SCLK), enabling easy integration with microcontrollers and minimizing pin count requirements. It operates over a supply voltage range of 2.0V to 5.5V and features dual power supply pins (primary and backup), allowing seamless switching between main power and battery backup sources. The device also supports a programmable trickle charger for rechargeable backup sources such as supercapacitors or rechargeable batteries, enhancing system reliability. With extremely low power consumption (typically less than 300nA in timekeeping mode), the DS1302Z+ is optimized for long battery life in portable and standby systems. Packaged in a compact 8-pin SOIC surface-mount form factor, the DS1302Z+ is suitable for high-density PCB designs and automated assembly processes.
