| Description | The ENC28J60-I/SO is a stand-alone Ethernet controller developed by Microchip that provides a complete 10BASE-T Ethernet interface through a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). It integrates both the Ethernet MAC and PHY layers in a single chip, allowing microcontrollers without built-in networking capability to easily connect to Ethernet networks. The device operates with a supply voltage range of approximately 3.1–3.6 V and communicates with the host MCU via an SPI interface supporting clock speeds up to 20–25 MHz. It includes 8 KB of internal buffer RAM used for transmit and receive packet storage and supports IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards with full- and half-duplex operation. The controller features hardware packet filtering, DMA support for efficient data movement, automatic CRC generation and checking, collision detection, and programmable retransmission. With its compact 28-pin SOIC package and integrated MAC/PHY architecture, the ENC28J60-I/SO is widely used in embedded networking applications such as industrial automation, IoT gateways, building control systems, and network-enabled instrumentation. |
