| Description | The TPS61500PWPR is a high-efficiency boost (step-up) LED driver IC developed by Texas Instruments, designed for driving high-brightness LEDs in applications such as display backlighting and industrial lighting systems. It integrates a powerful 3A, 40V internal switch, enabling compact and efficient LED driving solutions. This device operates over a wide input voltage range of 2.9V to 18V and can generate output voltages up to approximately 38V, making it suitable for driving multiple LEDs connected in series. It uses a current-mode PWM control architecture to regulate LED current precisely and maintain stable performance. The TPS61500PWPR supports both analog dimming and PWM dimming, allowing flexible brightness control depending on system requirements. Analog dimming is achieved via the DIMC pin, while PWM dimming enables accurate brightness control with consistent LED current. The device features a programmable switching frequency ranging from approximately 200kHz to 2.2MHz, enabling designers to optimize efficiency and external component size. It also includes a soft-start function to limit inrush current and improve system reliability during startup. For protection and reliability, the IC integrates cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limiting, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe operation in demanding environments. Encapsulated in a thermally enhanced 14-pin HTSSOP package with PowerPAD, the TPS61500PWPR provides efficient heat dissipation and is suitable for compact PCB layouts. The TPS61500PWPR is widely used in LCD backlighting, portable lighting systems, industrial illumination, automotive displays, and high-brightness LED applications, where efficient boost conversion and precise current control are required. |
