| Description | The TOF400C (VL53L1X) is a high-performance long-range Time-of-Flight (ToF) distance sensor module based on the VL53L1X laser ranging chipset from STMicroelectronics. It utilizes infrared laser technology to measure distance by calculating the time it takes for emitted light to reflect back from an object, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements independent of surface color or ambient light conditions. This module offers an extended measurement range of up to 4 meters, significantly improving over previous-generation sensors such as the VL53L0X. It provides millimeter-level resolution and supports multiple ranging modes (short, medium, long), allowing optimization between accuracy, speed, and ambient light immunity. The TOF400C communicates via an I2C interface and typically operates with a supply voltage of 3V to 5V (with onboard regulation), making it fully compatible with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP8266, and ESP32. It features a field of view of approximately 27° and typical current consumption around 20–40 mA during operation. With its compact PCB module design and integrated optics, the TOF400C is easy to integrate into embedded systems. It also supports advanced features such as programmable timing budget, interrupt output, and multi-device addressing on the same I2C bus.
