| Description | The APDS-9960 is a highly integrated 4-in-1 optical sensor developed by Broadcom, combining gesture recognition, proximity sensing, ambient light detection, and RGB color measurement in a single compact package. The device includes an infrared (IR) LED, four directional photodiodes, and advanced signal processing circuitry, enabling accurate gesture detection such as up, down, left, and right hand movements. This makes it ideal for touchless user interfaces and human-machine interaction systems. In addition to gesture sensing, the APDS-9960 provides proximity detection using reflected IR signals, typically within a range of up to 10–20 cm, allowing object detection and presence sensing. It also features ambient light and RGB color sensing capabilities, delivering digital output values for red, green, blue, and clear light channels, enabling accurate light intensity and color measurement. The sensor communicates via an I2C interface and operates within a voltage range of approximately 2.4V to 3.6V, making it easy to integrate with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP8266, and other embedded platforms. Thanks to its multi-functionality, compact size, and low power consumption, the APDS-9960 is widely used in applications such as smartphones, smart home devices, robotics, gesture-controlled interfaces, display brightness control, and IoT systems where touchless interaction and environmental sensing are required. |
