| Description | The ADP2301AUJZ-R7 is a compact, high-efficiency nonsynchronous step-down DC/DC switching regulator from Analog Devices. It integrates a power MOSFET and operates at a fixed switching frequency of 1.4MHz, providing an efficient solution for converting higher DC input voltages to regulated low-voltage power rails. The ADP2301 supports a wide 3.0V to 20V input voltage range, allowing it to operate from a variety of power sources including 5V, 9V, 12V and other intermediate supply rails. This wide operating range makes the device suitable for industrial, communications, instrumentation and general-purpose embedded power applications. The regulator can supply a maximum continuous load current of 1.2A. Its integrated high-side power MOSFET reduces external component count and simplifies PCB layout compared with switching regulator controllers that require an external switching transistor. The ADP2301 operates at a fixed 1.4MHz switching frequency. The relatively high switching frequency enables the use of small external inductors and capacitors, helping designers minimize the total PCB area and overall size of the power supply solution. The output voltage is adjustable from approximately 0.8V up to 0.85 × VIN using an external feedback resistor divider. This wide adjustment range allows the same regulator to generate common digital and analog supply rails including 1.0V, 1.2V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V when suitable input voltage headroom is available. The device provides ±2% output accuracy over its specified temperature range, making it suitable for regulated supply rails used by microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, communication ICs, sensors, data converters and other electronic circuits requiring a stable DC supply. The ADP2301 uses a current-mode control architecture that provides fast and stable line and load transient response. Current-mode regulation also simplifies loop compensation and contributes to reliable operation when the input voltage or output load changes rapidly. Efficiency can reach approximately 91% under suitable operating conditions. High conversion efficiency reduces power dissipation and heat generation compared with linear regulators, particularly when there is a significant difference between the input and output voltages. The ADP2301 automatically transitions between PWM and PFM operating modes according to load conditions. PWM operation provides efficient regulation under normal and heavier loads, while PFM operation helps reduce switching losses and improve efficiency when the output load becomes light. An integrated precision enable input with hysteresis provides controlled startup and shutdown. The enable input can also be combined with an external resistor divider to implement programmable input undervoltage thresholds or power-supply sequencing functions. The device incorporates an internal bootstrap diode, further reducing the number of external components required around the switching regulator. Internal compensation is also provided, simplifying the design process and helping achieve a compact power supply implementation. An integrated soft-start function controls the output voltage rise during startup and helps limit excessive inrush current. This is useful in systems containing sensitive upstream supplies or large output capacitance. The ADP2301 incorporates several protection functions including undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overcurrent protection (OCP), short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown (TSD). These protection mechanisms improve regulator and system reliability during abnormal operating conditions. The device operates over a junction temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, making it suitable for industrial and other applications requiring reliable operation across a broad temperature range. The ADP2301AUJZ-R7 is supplied in an ultrasmall 6-lead TSOT package, identified by Analog Devices package option UJ-6. The package measures approximately 2.90 × 2.80mm, enabling compact high-density power supply layouts. The R7 suffix identifies the device as being supplied in 7-inch tape-and-reel packaging, making it suitable for automated surface-mount PCB assembly and volume production. The combination of 20V maximum operating input, 1.2A output capability, 1.4MHz switching frequency, adjustable output down to 0.8V, integrated high-side MOSFET, automatic PFM/PWM operation, internal compensation, soft start and comprehensive protection functions makes the ADP2301AUJZ-R7 a compact and versatile power management solution. The ADP2301AUJZ-R7 is widely used in intermediate power rail conversion, digital system power supplies, microcontroller and FPGA power rails, communications equipment, networking equipment, industrial electronics, instrumentation systems, embedded computers, consumer electronics, medical and healthcare electronics, distributed power systems and high-efficiency replacements for linear regulators. |
