| Description | The PCF8574AT is an 8-bit remote I/O expander designed by NXP Semiconductors that extends the digital input/output capability of microcontrollers through the two-wire I²C bus interface. It operates with a supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 6 V and provides eight quasi-bidirectional I/O ports that can function as either inputs or outputs without requiring a direction control register. The device communicates using the standard I²C protocol (SCL and SDA) and supports multiple devices on the same bus through configurable hardware address pins. It also features an open-drain interrupt output (INT) that alerts the microcontroller when an input state changes, reducing the need for continuous polling. The outputs include latched drivers capable of directly driving LEDs and other digital loads. Because of its simple interface and low standby current consumption, the PCF8574AT is widely used in microcontroller GPIO expansion, LCD interfaces, keypad scanning, LED control, and embedded control systems. |
