| Description | The MBI5030GF-C is a high-performance 16-channel constant-current LED driver from Macroblock, specifically designed for LED video displays, LED matrix systems, and advanced digital lighting applications. By integrating constant-current output regulation with embedded PWM control, the device provides precise LED brightness management and excellent channel-to-channel current uniformity. The device integrates 16 regulated constant-current output channels capable of driving multiple LEDs with consistent current even when LED forward voltages vary between channels. Output current can be configured through an external resistor, providing flexible current adjustment for different LED types and display requirements. The MBI5030GF-C supports selectable 16-bit or 12-bit PWM color depth control. In 16-bit mode, each output channel can generate up to 65,536 grayscale levels, enabling smooth brightness transitions, accurate color reproduction, and detailed image rendering in high-quality LED display systems. Integrated Scrambled-PWM (S-PWM) technology divides the LED on-time into multiple switching periods to effectively increase the visual refresh rate. This technology helps reduce visible flicker and improves image fidelity, particularly in LED video walls, dynamic displays, and camera-facing LED installations. A built-in 16-bit shift register receives serial image data and transfers the corresponding grayscale information to the output channels. The embedded PWM engine manages LED timing internally, reducing the timing-generation workload of the host controller and simplifying LED display control architectures. The MBI5030GF-C provides 256-step programmable global current gain control, allowing overall LED brightness to be adjusted digitally without changing the external current-setting resistor. This function enables precise panel brightness calibration and compensation across large LED display assemblies. Integrated open-circuit LED error detection enables individual LED faults to be identified during operation. Silent error detection with low detection current supports display diagnostics while minimizing visible interference with normal image content. Operating from a 3.0V to 5.5V supply voltage range, the MBI5030GF-C is suitable for a wide variety of digital control systems. Schmitt-trigger inputs improve signal noise immunity, while high-speed serial communication supports demanding LED display data transfer requirements. Packaged in a compact 24-pin SOP package, the MBI5030GF-C is widely used in LED video walls, RGB LED displays, LED matrix panels, digital billboards, stadium displays, transportation information displays, variable message signs, advertising screens, architectural lighting systems, stage lighting equipment, and professional LED display modules requiring accurate constant-current control and high-resolution PWM dimming. |

| Part Number | Manufacturer | Channels | Internal PWM / Dimming | Interface | Output Current Range | Supply / LED Voltage | Diagnostics | PCB Compatibility vs MBI5030GF-C | Firmware Compatibility | Suitability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TLC59482 | Texas Instruments | 16 | 16-bit grayscale PWM, 65,536 steps + 6-bit global brightness control | Serial, SCLK/LAT/GSCLK style | 1-35 mA @ VCC ≤ 3.6 V, 1-45 mA @ VCC > 3.6 V | VCC 3.0-5.5 V, LED supply up to 10 V | No full LED error detection like MBI5030 | Not pin-compatible | Requires firmware rewrite | Very good functional alternative if your LED current is ≤45 mA. Closest TI option for internal 16-bit PWM. (Texas Instruments) |
| STP1612PW05 | STMicroelectronics | 16 | 12-bit / 16-bit PWM, enhanced PWM for flicker/ghost reduction, 8-bit current gain | Serial / SPI-like | 3-60 mA | 3.3 V or 5 V supply, 20 V output capability | Open LED, short LED, overtemperature, UVLO | Not pin-compatible with MBI5030, but drop-in compatible with STP16CP/S/DP05 family | Requires firmware rewrite | Best overall third-party functional alternative if 60 mA/channel is enough. Closest to MBI5030 feature set. (STMicroelectronics) |
| TLC59116 | Texas Instruments | 16 | 8-bit individual PWM + 8-bit group PWM/blink | I²C Fast-Mode Plus, up to 1 MHz | 5-120 mA | VCC 3.0-5.5 V, outputs 17 V tolerant | Open-circuit detection | Not pin-compatible | Major firmware rewrite; I²C register-based control | Good for static RGB/backlight/control panels, not ideal for high-refresh LED matrix/video because PWM depth is only 8-bit and interface is I²C. (Texas Instruments) |
| PCA9745B | NXP | 16 | 8-bit individual PWM + group PWM + autonomous gradation/ramp control | 4-wire SPI-compatible, up to 25 MHz | 225 µA-57 mA | VCC 3.0-5.5 V, LED outputs up to 20 V | Open, short, overtemperature | Not pin-compatible | Major firmware rewrite | Technically useful for decorative dimming/animation, but not recommended for new designs by NXP. Avoid unless already committed. (nxp.com) |
| STP16CPC26 | STMicroelectronics | 16 | No internal grayscale PWM; brightness via OE pin / external PWM | Serial shift register | 5-90 mA | 3.0-5.5 V supply, 20 V output capability | Thermal shutdown | Pinout is similar to many 24-pin LED sink drivers, but not verified pin-to-pin with MBI5030GF-C | Requires firmware + external PWM timing change | Good current-range match to MBI5030, but a functional downgrade because there is no internal 16-bit PWM. (STMicroelectronics) |
| STP16CP05 | STMicroelectronics | 16 | No internal grayscale PWM; brightness by current resistor or external OE PWM | Serial shift register | 5-100 mA | Low-voltage supply down to 3 V, 20 V output capability | Basic driver; no MBI5030-like PWM engine | Not verified pin-to-pin | Requires external PWM architecture | Good low-cost/high-current option if you do PWM externally from MCU/FPGA. Not a true MBI5030 replacement. (STMicroelectronics) |
| TLC59281 | Texas Instruments | 16 | No internal grayscale PWM; on/off control only | Serial | Up to 35 mA | VCC 3.0-5.5 V, LED supply up to 17 V | Basic on/off driver class | Not pin-compatible | Requires external PWM | Useful only for lower-current designs. Too limited if you need MBI5030-like 16-bit PWM or >35 mA/channel. (Texas Instruments) |
| TLC5927 / TLC592x family | Texas Instruments | 16 | No internal grayscale PWM; global current gain and external PWM possible | Serial shift register | 5-120 mA | 3.3 V or 5 V supply, output up to 17 V | Open-load, short-load, overtemperature detection | Not pin-compatible | Requires external PWM + firmware change | Good for high-current LED panels where MCU/FPGA handles PWM. Not equivalent to MBI5030 internal PWM. (Texas Instruments) |
