| Description | The ATMEGA808-XFR is a compact and highly integrated 8-bit AVR microcontroller from Microchip Technology, designed for embedded control, industrial electronics, consumer products, sensor interfaces, home automation, power management, and general-purpose applications. The device combines the modern AVR CPU architecture with integrated Flash, SRAM, EEPROM, analog peripherals, flexible timers, serial communication interfaces, an Event System, and Configurable Custom Logic. The ATMEGA808-XFR operates at a maximum CPU frequency of 20MHz. Its enhanced AVR architecture provides efficient instruction execution and deterministic real-time performance, making the microcontroller suitable for applications ranging from simple control functions to embedded systems requiring multiple hardware peripherals and precise timing. The microcontroller integrates 8KB of Flash program memory, 1KB of SRAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM. The integrated EEPROM provides nonvolatile storage for configuration parameters, calibration values, identification information, operating counters, and other application data that must be retained when power is removed. The device supports a wide operating supply voltage range of approximately 1.8V to 5.5V, providing compatibility with both modern low-voltage electronics and conventional 5V embedded systems. This wide voltage range makes the MCU suitable for battery-powered equipment, industrial controllers, sensor systems, and mixed-voltage embedded designs. An integrated 10-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) enables measurement of external analog signals from sensors, voltage dividers, current sensing networks, temperature sensors, potentiometers, and other analog sources. An integrated Analog Comparator (AC) provides additional hardware-based threshold detection and analog comparison capabilities. The ATMEGA808-XFR provides flexible serial communication capabilities through integrated USART, SPI, and TWI compatible with I2C interfaces. These communication peripherals simplify connection to sensors, displays, EEPROMs, wireless communication modules, external data converters, motor drivers, communication transceivers, and other embedded devices. The integrated Event System enables direct communication between internal peripherals without requiring continuous CPU intervention. This hardware-based event routing reduces software overhead, improves deterministic response times, and can reduce overall system power consumption in event-driven embedded applications. The device also incorporates Configurable Custom Logic (CCL), which allows simple combinational and sequential logic functions to be implemented directly inside the microcontroller. CCL can replace external logic components in many applications and can interact with GPIO, timers, and the Event System to create hardware-assisted control functions. Integrated timing resources include Timer/Counter Type A (TCA), Timer/Counter Type B (TCB), and a Real-Time Counter (RTC). These peripherals support PWM generation, periodic interrupts, pulse measurement, waveform generation, frequency measurement, timekeeping, event counting, and other timing-intensive embedded functions. The ATMEGA808-XFR incorporates a Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) for implementing capacitive touch interfaces. The PTC can support touch buttons, sliders, wheels, and proximity sensing, enabling user-interface functionality without requiring a separate capacitive touch controller IC. Programming and debugging are provided through Microchip's Unified Program and Debug Interface (UPDI). UPDI uses a single pin for programming and debugging communication, reducing pin requirements and simplifying development, production programming, and in-system firmware servicing. Integrated system functions include a watchdog timer, brown-out detector, power-on reset, internal oscillator resources, interrupt controller, configurable GPIO, and multiple sleep modes. These functions help minimize external component requirements while providing the reliability and low-power capabilities required for standalone embedded systems. The ATMEGA808-XFR is supplied in a compact 32-pin VQFN package measuring 5 × 5mm. This surface-mount package provides a small PCB footprint while maintaining extensive GPIO and peripheral connectivity. The R ordering option is supplied in tape-and-reel format for automated high-volume SMT assembly. The ATMEGA808-XFR is widely used in industrial control boards, smart sensors, home automation equipment, IoT nodes, consumer electronics, appliance controllers, LED lighting systems, motor and actuator controllers, battery-powered devices, power management equipment, measurement instruments, capacitive touch interfaces, portable electronics, communication peripherals, electronic control panels, and general-purpose embedded systems requiring a compact and flexible 8-bit AVR microcontroller. |
