| Description | The DS1340C-33# is a compact and highly integrated real-time clock (RTC) and calendar IC developed by Analog Devices (Maxim Integrated), designed for accurate timekeeping in embedded systems and low-power applications. It maintains full calendar functionality including seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year with automatic leap-year compensation. The device features an integrated 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator, eliminating the need for external crystal components and simplifying PCB design while improving reliability and accuracy. It communicates through a standard I2C serial interface (up to 400 kHz), allowing easy integration with microcontrollers, DSPs, and embedded systems. The DS1340C-33# operates with a 3.3V supply and includes automatic power-fail detection and backup switching, seamlessly transitioning to a backup supply to maintain continuous timekeeping during power interruptions. It also includes a trickle charger circuit for rechargeable backup sources such as supercapacitors, along with an oscillator stop flag and software calibration features to enhance accuracy and system reliability. With extremely low power consumption and a timekeeping voltage down to approximately 1.3V, the device is optimized for long battery life in portable and standby systems. Packaged in a compact SOIC-16 surface-mount form factor, the DS1340C-33# is suitable for high-density PCB layouts and automated manufacturing processes.
