| Description | The ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 is a robust, low-power 10BASE-T1L Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) physical layer transceiver from Analog Devices. Designed specifically for industrial Ethernet applications, the device enables standard Ethernet communication over a single balanced pair of conductors while supporting cable lengths significantly greater than conventional Ethernet physical layers. The ADIN1100 is compliant with the IEEE 802.3cg-2019 10BASE-T1L standard. It provides full-duplex Ethernet communication at 10Mbps over a single twisted pair, enabling Ethernet connectivity to extend directly to field-level industrial devices, sensors, actuators, controllers, and instrumentation. A major advantage of 10BASE-T1L technology is its long cable reach. The ADIN1100 supports communication distances of up to approximately 1700 meters under appropriate cable and system conditions, allowing Ethernet networks to reach field devices without requiring intermediate Ethernet switches or protocol conversion gateways. The PHY supports both standardized 1.0Vp-p and 2.4Vp-p transmit amplitude modes. The 1.0Vp-p mode is particularly important for applications with lower power requirements and can support systems designed for intrinsic safety considerations, while the higher 2.4Vp-p level provides additional signal margin for suitable installations. The ADIN1100 integrates the complete Ethernet PHY core together with the associated analog circuitry, transmit and receive functions, clock buffering, management registers, MAC interface logic, reset control, clock control, and hardware configuration functions. The host processor can connect to the ADIN1100 through standard MII, RMII, or RGMII MAC interfaces. This interface flexibility allows the PHY to be paired with a wide range of industrial microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, Ethernet controllers, and embedded computing platforms. A standard MDIO management interface provides software access to PHY configuration, status, diagnostics, and control registers. The ADIN1100 also supports unmanaged operation using hardware pin strapping, enabling certain system configurations without requiring software-based PHY initialization. The device can operate from a 25MHz crystal or external clock source. RMII applications can use the appropriate 50MHz reference clock configuration, providing compatibility with commonly used embedded Ethernet MAC architectures. The ADIN1100 incorporates extensive cable and link diagnostic capabilities. Integrated Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) functionality can assist with identifying cable faults, helping industrial systems detect and diagnose wiring problems without requiring dedicated external test equipment. An integrated Link Quality Indicator uses Mean Square Error (MSE) information to provide insight into the quality of the physical communication link. This feature can be used for predictive maintenance, installation verification, cable-condition monitoring, and network diagnostics in industrial systems. Additional diagnostic capabilities include an integrated frame generator and checker, multiple loopback modes, and IEEE test modes. These functions simplify production testing, commissioning, system diagnostics, and troubleshooting of industrial Ethernet equipment. The ADIN1100 also provides automatic MDI polarity detection and correction. This feature increases installation robustness by allowing the PHY to compensate for reversed pair polarity in supported configurations. Low power consumption is a key characteristic of the device. In a dual-supply configuration using the 1.0Vp-p transmit level, power consumption can be as low as approximately 39mW. This makes the ADIN1100 particularly suitable for compact field instruments, remotely powered devices, and power-constrained industrial Ethernet nodes. The device supports flexible single-supply or dual-supply operation with 1.8V and 3.3V supply options. The digital MAC interface supply, VDDIO, can operate at 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V, providing convenient interfacing to different processors and digital logic voltage domains. Integrated power supply monitoring and power-on reset circuitry helps provide controlled device initialization and reliable operation during supply startup and abnormal power conditions. The ADIN1100 has been designed specifically for demanding industrial electromagnetic environments. The device architecture supports systems targeting industrial EMC requirements including ESD, electrical fast transient, surge, conducted immunity, radiated immunity, and radiated emissions standards when implemented with the appropriate external components and PCB design. The PHY supports industrial Ethernet applications where existing field wiring or long cable runs make conventional 100BASE-TX or 1000BASE-T Ethernet impractical. Using only one twisted pair can also reduce cable size, connector complexity, installation cost, and overall system weight. The CCPZ version provides an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C. This makes the ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 particularly suitable for industrial equipment installed in harsh environments where standard commercial or industrial temperature ranges may not be sufficient. The ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 is supplied in a compact 40-lead LFCSP package with exposed pad. The CP-40-29 package has a body size of approximately 6 × 6mm and a nominal height of 0.75mm, providing a compact footprint for space-constrained industrial Ethernet designs. The exposed pad assists with electrical grounding and thermal performance and should be connected according to the manufacturer's recommended PCB layout and grounding guidelines. Careful layout of the MDI interface, termination network, power supplies, reference clock, and MAC interface is important for achieving optimum EMC and signal-integrity performance. The R7 ordering suffix identifies the tape-and-reel packaging option. The ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 is supplied on a 7-inch reel with 750 devices per reel, making the device suitable for automated SMT assembly and volume production. The combination of IEEE 802.3cg-2019 compliance, 10Mbps full-duplex Single-Pair Ethernet, cable reach up to 1700m, 1.0Vp-p and 2.4Vp-p transmit levels, MII/RMII/RGMII interfaces, MDIO management, integrated TDR diagnostics, link quality monitoring, low power consumption, and -40°C to +105°C operation makes the ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 a comprehensive physical-layer solution for long-reach industrial Ethernet connectivity. The ADIN1100CCPZ-R7 is widely used in process automation, factory automation, industrial Ethernet networks, field instruments, smart sensors, actuators, industrial controllers, building automation, condition monitoring, industrial IoT systems, edge devices, remote I/O modules, instrumentation, energy management, long-reach Ethernet networks, hazardous-area communication systems, and Single-Pair Ethernet infrastructure. |
