Description The BQ79616PAPRQ1 is a highly integrated automotive battery monitor, balancer, and protection IC from Texas Instruments, specifically developed for advanced battery management systems used in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and energy storage applications. This device supports monitoring of up to 16 series-connected battery cells and delivers highly accurate voltage measurements with ±1.5mV ADC accuracy. Fast measurement capability allows all cell voltages to be captured within 128µs, enabling rapid system diagnostics and improved battery management performance.

The BQ79616PAPRQ1 integrates advanced cell balancing functionality with balancing currents up to 240mA. Built-in thermal management automatically pauses and resumes balancing operations when necessary, helping maintain safe operating conditions and extending battery life.

Designed for safety-critical automotive applications, the device supports ISO 26262 functional safety architectures up to ASIL-D. The IC includes overvoltage, undervoltage, open-wire, temperature, and fault detection capabilities, providing comprehensive monitoring of battery pack health. For scalable battery pack architectures, the BQ79616PAPRQ1 features isolated differential daisy-chain communication with optional ring topology support. This architecture allows reliable communication across multiple battery monitoring devices while reducing wiring complexity in large battery systems.

Additional flexibility is provided through integrated GPIO and auxiliary measurement channels, enabling connection of external thermistors and system monitoring components. Support for UART and SPI-based communication interfaces simplifies integration with host controllers and battery management processors.
