| Description | The VL53L0X is a compact and high-precision time-of-flight (ToF) distance sensor developed by STMicroelectronics, designed for accurate distance measurement using laser ranging technology. It integrates a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode) array, and advanced signal processing in a single package. Unlike traditional infrared sensors, the VL53L0X measures absolute distance by calculating the time it takes for emitted light to reflect back from a target. This allows it to achieve accurate and stable measurements independent of object reflectivity or ambient light conditions. The sensor supports distance measurement up to approximately 2 meters, depending on environmental conditions and target characteristics. It communicates via a standard I2C interface, making it easy to integrate with microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other embedded platforms. Operating at low power with a supply voltage typically around 2.6V to 3.5V, the VL53L0X is ideal for battery-powered and portable applications.
