| Description | The PCF8574T is an 8-bit I²C bus I/O expander developed by NXP Semiconductors, designed to provide additional general-purpose digital input/output ports for microcontroller systems using a simple two-wire I²C interface. It operates with a supply voltage range from approximately 2.5 V to 6 V, allowing compatibility with both 3.3 V and 5 V logic systems. The device provides eight quasi-bidirectional I/O pins that can be individually configured as inputs or outputs without requiring direction control registers. Communication with the host microcontroller is performed through the I²C bus, supporting multiple devices on the same bus with configurable hardware addresses. The PCF8574T also includes an interrupt output that notifies the host controller when an input state changes, helping reduce unnecessary polling. Because of its simplicity and minimal pin requirements, the device is widely used for expanding GPIO in microcontroller projects, LCD interfaces, keypads, LED control, and embedded systems where additional digital I/O lines are required. |
